Nice things said about her................................ Nicholas Hytner: " Winona is so articulate and literate - it's in her genes, really. She comes from a very bookish family "Richard Benjamin, director of Mermaids: " It never looks like she's acting. It looks like someone is living, breathing and being Laura Ziskin FOX 2000 President: " She's really authentic, and audiences respond to that. I think her authenticity allows her to give as insight into ifie human condition and that's what we like to watch! "David Seltzer, director of Lucas: " She was very sympathetic and sincere playing a child who thought she would never be beautiful. It was very poignant because she was clearly about to blossom into a beautiful young woman herself "Well it's just never enough reading comments like that. Go on people post more. P.S By the way this was the 1000th topic.

Zorianna Kit "If the eyes are indeed the window to the soul, Winona Ryder's expressive brown eyes tell all. From her early teen roles in such films as "Beetlejuice" (1988), "Heathers" (1989) and "Mermaids" (1990) to her more complex, Oscar-nominated performances in "The Age of Innocence" (1993) and "Little Women" (1994), Ryder embodies with ease every role she takes on."
Tom Rothman, president, worldwide productions, Twentieth Century Fox "I don't know of any actress of her generation who has that kind of versatility".
Denise Di Novi"She's not swayed by popular opinion, pressure or manipulation, and I think that's why she's so successful, she really has a backbone and makes decisions based on the right criteria. She doesn't do things because she thinks it's good for her career or she'll make more money.
Gillian Armstrong "Winona has fabulous taste in judging other actors as well, she spotted both Claire Danes and Christian Bale. She told me to have a look at their work and they both turned out to be extraordinary in 'Little Women.I think playing Jo was easy for her because it's quite close to who she is,Winona is an intelligent, sensitive girl with big dreams and a strong heart. She was warm and generous to all the girls in the movie, and that was fantastic because it set a tone. They really did become like sisters."

Tim Burton "The part in Edward Scissorhands wasn't Shakespeare or Joan of Arc, but a definite stretch for someone who instinctively moves closer to the dark than the light,Winona felt very uncomfortable in her clothes... but still exhibited a real power and total believability. That's what I counted on. Just like in "Beetlejuice," I needed someone to ground the movie so it wouldn't spring off into the stratosphere."
Chris Heath THE MOST RESPECTED YOUNG ACTRESS IN HOLLYWOOD IS ALSO THE MOST UNPREDICTABLE. WITNESS HER TURNS AS A MONSTER MASHER ONSCREEN IN 'ALIEN RESURRECTION' AND AS A PRANCING SPICE GIRL IN REAL LIFE.
Denise DiNovi "People say to me, 'Has she changed? "She's matured and become a woman, but the essence of her has always been there. She's one of those people who sort of arrived on the planet [as] who she was. In all the years I've known her, I've never seen her falter for one minute. She's never been tempted by big, cheesy, commercial movies. The other thing about Winona that is most impressive is that she is not weird with other actresses. Her best friends are Claire [Danes] and Gwyneth [Paltrow]. She is a real cheerleader for other actresses, which is unusual. I think actresses can be very competitive they feel like there's only so many parts."

Timothy Leary --- "On screen Winona stands out like a polar bear on black velvet" -----Winona's friend Lisa Falk --- "I don't think she's into self-analysis. She doesn't think about, she just does it." ------ Director Ben Stiler --- "It's funny---girls really like her, and guys even like her. Every guy I've ever talked to has a crush on her." ----- Director David Seltzer about casting Winona in "Lucas" --- "It would have been easy to cast someone who was a wallflower or ugly or self-absorbed, but because she's so appealing it's rather tragic." ----------- Rusty

Brittany Murphy Q:You are friends with Winona Ryder.Did you meet filming Girl, interrupted? A:Yes.The first time she left a message on my answering machine,i replayed it like 35 times.I remember saying to my friend "Doesn't she sound exactly like she did in Reality Bites?"
Q:Are you and Winona still close? A: Oh yeah. She is one of my dearest friends in the business. She's like a little Holly Golightly.I don't shop often, but when i do,i call Noni. The press takes pictures of her shopping. They love doing that.
Q:So what was up with the picture of you and Winona kissing? A:Yeah, that was really funny. We planned it [to get a rise out of the paparazzi].

Richard E. Grant "She is very, very determined, around the set she giggles like someone who has just come out of high school. But when the camera rolls, she doesn't screw around."

I personally love these 2 comments...from 2 of my MOST admired actresses and persons in Hollywood Susan Sarandon: "I didn´t have to mother Winona too much. She is a very smart, very experienced young woman. I really admire the fact that she´s taken her life in her hands. It´s hard to start out really young in the business. It´s much easier to come in at 26 or 27. It´s hard to go trough that change on film publicly. Hardly anybody survived from when i was 20 and started, and she was even younger. So i have great respect for her...... I love Winona and i really respect her". Meryl Streep: "The camera really does love her. It can´t seem to get enough of what she holds in her eyes".

Robert Downey Jr. -- "She has this thing, I don't what it is." ------ Director Tim Burton -- "She's magic!" ----- Anthony Hopkins (while filming "Dracula") -- "She was constantly asking me, 'Have you read this and have you read that?' I hadn't even heard of some of the books, she's enchanting!" -------- The Hopkins quote is so enjoyable. It shows how sweet Winona must really be in person. Rusty

I'm wondering what might long dead historical figures who have never met her might have to say about Winona Ryder, why don't we start with three great minds of the MYSTIC EAST, shall we?
QUOTES FROM THE MYSTIC EAST ON WINONA!
Confucius: Believe not in beguiling vixen spirit, unless of course you see Winona Ryder, which is entirely different matter.
Basho: Winona Ryder Intoxicates me more than Sake or Moonlight.
Rabindranath Tagore: When Truth smiles when she beholds her own face in a perfect mirror, she might still have to catch up with Winona Ryder a little.*
* The original quote was "Beauty is truth's smile when she beholds her own face in a perfect mirror." This is obviously the only quote here that is grounded in an actual saying, the others are a mock haiku and a fortune cookie anecdote. By the way, REAL Chinese NEVER ATE FORTUNE COOKIES!
