For me it started when I was watching Saturday Night Live with Brittany Murphy hosting. As I was watching I said to myself "I love her big eyes, you know who else has big eyes, ...". The next night I saw "Girl Interrupted" and my fate was sealed.

Ioved her since the first moment I saw her. I was 12 or 13. That was in TV when they anunced Dracula and passed some of the trailer, which appear more of Winona than Hopckins or Oldman. She was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen They anunced Gary Oldman as Dracula and Anthony Hopkins as the vampireslayer, but they don't mention Winona. In the radio had some Publicity of the movie starring Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins and Winona Ryder. That was the first time I heard her name. I think she was a beautifull model without any talent, and I haven't seen the movie. Then I was noticed that she was nominated to an Oscar and was the favourite. I thought she had some talent, then I've seen her movies on Video, and later I have seen as an chilean Girl Blanca Trueba in House of Spirits and the rest is history

August 16th, 1988 I saw Beetlejuice with Michael Keaton, not knowing I would see a young lady for the first time, who I have loved ever since, with her first line in a movie as "Delia hates it, I could live here." The young lady was our beautiful Winona Ryder. ----- Rusty

I first saw winona when I rented mr deeds with my friend . At this point I didnt actually know who she was. Well anyway what actually happened was I fell asleep just after my friend put the video on - it was a tiring day - and he hadnt noticed and so didnt wake me up. the next morning (18th april 2003) I took the video back to my house so I could watch it, I wasn't going to waste my £1.50! Thats when it all happened. That night I looked up winona on google and found this forum. A couple of days later I made my first appearance, I dont remember what I said but charles asked if I would like to join. Making my first post as a member: "Wow seeing winona must have been great! You are so lucky!!!! I live in england " about a week later channel 4 showed a program about wiona and 3 films: The Crucible Girl, interupted and Heathers Unfortunatly I fell asleep waiting for the Cruicible to start - man I'm stupid! anyway thats about it...

Hi Folks,
I don't think I've ever told this story. In the late 1980's I was vaguely aware of a new actress that was getting A LOT of buzz whose name was Winona Ryder. I had heard of Beetlejuice and Heathers, but hadn't seen either. I did catch "Great Balls of Fire" and noticed young Winona for the first time . . . but she was that, young, and I didn't pay too much attention. Then I saw "Mermaids," and was not only charmed by the story, but also by young Winona. I thought to myself that she was quiite unusual and a beauty, but still too young.
Then, in 1993 or 1994, I saw a beautiful photo in People Magazine of Winona at a public event in a sleek white dress. Weeell, this was the photo of a WOMAN. I was spellbound . . . could this be the little girl that was getting all the buzz, the teenager in "Mermaids?" Its often said that men fall in love with their eyes and women fall in love with their ears. Upon seeing this photo, I was enchanted.
Slowly, I started checking out her older films, including Heathers and Beetjuice. I continued to follow her movie roles, but I KNEW she was just too young, so it was a private affair, so to speak. After getting on the internet (later than most) I discovered AGCN just prior to Winona's 30th birthday. In my mind, if she was 30, then it was okay to follow her career, publically. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Even with her difficulties in the recent past, I've so enjoyed watching her grow and truly become a woman. And now, without question, she is one . . . no more little girl, no more ingenue, no more fragile flower . . . now she's a woman. And I'm here to stay.
Cheers, Charles
.

ETS-wr, so you are an old timer on the group like me, that's great --------- Charles, My memory of first seeing Winona is still vivid in my mind. When she entered the scene in Beetlejuice I fell instantly in love with the young lady. I was an instant fan. ----- The sad thing, the theater where I first saw Winona was turned into a large discount store. -------- Rusty

Hi Paul, Sexual preference aside, I assumed there were several kinds of fans: 1. Admirers -- those who admire the lady's talents, accomplishments, and body of work. 2. Adorers -- beyond admiration, these fans have deep affection for the lady, based on who she is, how she comports herself, the life she leads. She can be a role model or a fantasy best friend to an adorer. 3. Sensualists -- these fans add sexual attraction to their feelings about Winona. It seems like all of us are a blending of these three (and other) fan types. For example, I am an admiring sensualist. So, regardless of sexual preference, I think we all share some of these qualities as we follow Winona's career. Cheers, Charles . For a few years I had known of Winona Ryder, I remembered seeing her in the poster for "Reality Bites" and thought that she was a really beautiful woman with some of the most perfect features I have ever seen, but then to me that was of course the NORM in Hollywood...so I didn't pay attention, in fact I never saw man of her movies much, but soon it started occurring to me what in her just STOOD OUT from everybody else. Heck, by that time, nearly everyone my age liked her, she was good taste incarnate. In addition, when I decided to write that unfinished animal fairytale about a fox and a wolf falling in love, the image of Noni as the fox came too strong to me. Maybe it was the manifestation of something I have always had in mind. There was always a level of depth and mischief you could sense behind her eyes.So I was pretty much sucked into the fandom. The rest,of course, is history. But of course, over time, Winona Ryder came to mean different things to me, once she was just an actress I admired for her work and her performances and that I sensualized over for her beauty. Now the sensualistic part has lessened (Though I am a bonafide Taurian, the most sensualistic of the constellations.) because that just seems silly to some extent, but Winona Ryder still stirs my imagination. In fact, there are two Winonas. One is the fascinating human being. The other being the figment of my imagination. Winona, in short, to me, is a muse, and a spur in my own life towards excellence. You could say she is why I strive for perfect grammar and spelling in these posts
