With STRANGER THINGS being one of the most popular shows around, let's talk about 80s horror here based on this list. One thing STRANGER THINGS has sure tapped into was for the cinematic memories of that era. As the Cold War wound up, and it was Morning in America to some and Greed Run Amok to others, cinematically it was an age that for horror and dark fantasy (I was a tot when most of these films were made and have barely seen a handful, so I'm not too sure how well my description is) balanced just nicely on a knife-edge between goo and gore. (Stephen) King began his long reign as King, and effects could be organic and rubbery enough to be hokey but also atmospheric and therefore, evoke just the right amount of chills and laughs, both intended and unintended. They could be gross, but there was often something fun about its grossness. There was a whole lot of fascination with crawling around in tunnels and dark spaces, perhaps echoes of Vietnam ringing distant. And of course, synth, lots of synth. So how many on the list above have you seen? And any favorites? I've only seen NEAR DARK, ALIENS and THE THING, and liked them all. For various reasons THE KEEP is still not on DVD but it's one of those movies I've been itching to see in full again someday. If anything, between the Tangerine Dream score and the rubbery yet still intimidating monster it probably is everything 80s horror in the broadest strokes.

Personally mine favourite horror movies 80s are the Thing, the Fly and Alien...pratically 3 remakes, nothing new under hollywood sun. Honestly I prefer horror of 70 when worked some directors I call the"demolitin men";for example Romero(end 60s)in Night of living Death with a girl killed and eated by her resurrected brother,or in Precint 13 when Carpenter shoot a little girl without a reason end at the top with Exorcist of Friedkin. In those years they attacked sacred values of bourgeois family and means they up against middle class morality. After in 80 years horror was seducted by special effects(think at the beginning of splatter)and often it take too much relevance. I hope mine english is understanable,I'm taking advantage from this forum for revise.

I'm putting forward this thread to let everyone talk about their own 80s nostalgia with regard to STRANGER THINGS.
Really, I'm wondering why the 80s are back in such a big way in North American pop culture, and why that decade above all others? I'd like to hear the opinions from the various North Americans here.
