Favorite acting honors go to MBB and Noah Schnapp (Will). 2 extraordinary kids. Loved the addition of Max, the way she dished it out, as well as taking it. Thought she might be Reese Witherspoon's daughter, but no relation. Reese's daughter isn't joining for Season 3, but Uma's is."Maya Hawke—the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke—has been cast in the third season of Netflix’s Stranger Things as an “alternative girl” who is tired of her “mundane day job.” Naturally, as a character in Stranger Things, she eventually “gets more than she bargained for” when she discovers yet another “dark secret” in the town of Hawkins, Indiana. (Or maybe it’s one of the same dark secrets everyone else already knows about, like the parallel reality or the numbered children with superpowers.)" Won't it be great if Maya's character is the one who's a tribute to Winona's roles of that decade and she gets to riff it off opposite Winona? Sounds like it somewhat already...would also be a great lead-in from the injoke of having Winona watch MR MOM which featured Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton. I wonder if Maya signed on just to work with Winona. I mean look at this...

Maya Thurman-Hawke (yes, Uma's daughter) talks about, among other things, onset interactions with Winona.Hawke also had a unique opportunity to commiserate with another living Jo March. Although she had met Winona Ryder several times in her life (the actress had co-starred with Hawke’s father in “Reality Bites”), it wasn’t until joining the cast of “Stranger Things” was Hawke able to discuss playing Jo.
“I felt super lucky to have gotten to be able to get to work with her… I’m really nervous for her to see it,” said Hawke. “We got to talk about it a little bit over the cast dinner. Mostly we talked about what an honor it is to get to play such a literary heroine, a feminist powerhouse figurehead, and what an inspiration she is and how fortunate it is to get to spend any time in one’s life with that character living in your body.”

Screenshot of new cast member - Uma Thurman's daughter, Maya Hawke, alongside King Steve. Looks so happy in her dead end job Of all the new developments for Season 3, Maya Hawke is really the one I'm most excited about. Must be such an experience to share the set with one of your dad's friends AND someone you grew up fangirling over. And also:

Also check out this fake publicity ad for a neighborhood mall... as funny as it is sadly nostalgic. linkOr... as nostalgic as it is sadly (deemed) funny. No, just some nostalgic. But, if I can somehow totally recall, I had a slightly differy experience where I grew up (mostly as a bystander, though). Or, perhaps, that's just my mixed-in memory of how those westerly, glamourized and spurious, teen 80's films set locations and personality styles, were imprinted upon myself after all those viewings. Wait..yeah - I was definetly a bystander to all that swill jazz. BG

It's funny because of how effectively it parodies the smarmy overselling of such venues in the real world (a STATE OF THE ART FOOD COURT!), and note also how Maya Hawke does that Winona trademark "glance to the side" at the end of her bit, if you watch carefully. It's clear her character absolutely wants NOTHING to do with selling ice cream or filming that advertisement. At the end, also note Starcourt lists itself as a subsidiary of an international conglomerate despite its labeling as an "all-American" mall.
And here's the date announcement. From the ominous digital music and the code displays I hope there's an homage to WAR GAMES this season, or given the name of the mall (Starcourt), THE LAST STARFIGHTER. We can hope.
