The actress became one of the executive producers on the film, and hand-picked director James Mangold ("Heavy", "Cop Land"). Angelina Jolie, Whoopi Goldberg and Vanessa Redgrave co-star in the film. ----- "I was impressed with her urgency to see it made," Mangold said of Ryder. "I felt like I had been given a gift." ----- Rusty

The director likened Ryder to silent film star Lillian Gish, in both her exquisite beauty and her ability to tell a story with just facial expressions. ----- "She is really unique among modern actresses," he said. "She is a true movie actress in the grandest sense of the word. She has a incredibly intimate relationship with the camera lens." ----- Rust

Later, Winona was told of his comments. "I've heard him say that silent-film thing before, and I think he just doesn't like the sound of my voice. Maybe he wants me to shut up." Although born in Minnesota (she is named for her hometown of Winona, MInn.), she lived most of her early life in San Francisco, except for four years when the family lived in Petaluma, Calif., the self-styled chicken and arm wrestling capital of the world. ----- Rusty

She began taking acting lessons at 12 and was discovered at 13 in a theater production, which led to her first film role in the 1986 coming-of-age movie "Lucas". ----- Ryder, whose boyfriend is actor Matt Damon, has made 23 films and was nominated for a best actress Oscar for "Little Women", and a best supporting Oscar for "The Age of Innocence". But it was "Heathers" that established her first as a rising star in Hollywood. ----- Rusty

"My agents at the time told me flat-out that my career was over if I took that role," she said."They are no longer my agents. I feel a sense of pride whenever that film comes on TV. It's a classic. ----- I feel pride whenever most of my films come on TV. I'm proud of the choices I've made." ----- Rusty

"I wanted a career that had integrity. Of course, all young actresses want that. But along the way, they start to see that films with integrity are not where the money lies. The money lies in doing lousier work.I'm in this for the long haul, and I can't do those kinds of films. I've been offered them, but that's not the career I want." ----- That's all folks, it was an enjoyable article. ----- Rusty

This is an online puppet series called TRANSYLVANIA TELEVISION, featuring the adventures of one Furry J Ackermonster after he graduates the University of Monstersota at Mankato and heads for work at Transylvania TV...to work for his new boss, Count LeShoc.
And the sketch below features a brief glimpse of Winona Ryder...it's hilarious.

Now a 2000 revue of "Girl Interrupted" ---------- So-So Movie, Interrupted ----- Sometimes you go into a movie with a bad attitude. You're thinking to yourself, these Hollywood people better entertain me. I just shelled out ten bucks to see them, so they had better give me the world. I wasn't sure what kind of mood I was in for "Girl Interrupted", but I do know this: I had just seen "The Hurricane" and there was no way in my mind that this film would ever compare with "The Hurricane". Truth is though, I'm not here to compare movies. So forget the apples and oranges argument and help me out here. ----- Rusty

I have to figure out if this is a good movie. Going in , I had already caught the trailer two, three times and the only thing that grabbed me was the music, so being jaded I thought, hmmmm ..... soundtrack movie. -----It's not bad as all that. After all, it has Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie in it. They can both act though I sometimes think Ryder isn't acting, but being. Jolie is still a relatively unknown quantity. But what an unknowm! Her range is seemingly limitless and apparantly the woman has no fear of how she is perceived. ----- Rusty

But the story must always come first, and really there isn't much of a story here. It's like four television episodes of a new T.V. shw. Episode one: Susanna (Winona Ryder) moves into the asylum, meets the psychotic bully Lisa (Jolie) and by episode's end, they are friends. Episode two: The further wacky adventures of Susanna, Lisa and their wacky inmate friends as they pop pills and go into town. Episode three: Susanna and Lisa go on a road trip to visit a wacky friend Daisy (Brittany Murphy). Episode four: Susanna and Lisa, clearing their minds from mental illness .... all setting us up for the next series of TV shows. A spin-off that seems more likely to follow the path of Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda than "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". ----- Rusty

I know. That all sounds vicious and overly simplistic. Honestly. It is. After all, the acting is good, at times excellent. The cast that surrounds Ryder and Jolie are top notch. Even Whoopi Goldberg actually didn't annoy me as she usually does. In fact, I will go as far to say I thought she was quite good in "Girl Interruputed" ..... even believable in her role as the head nurse in the ward. ----- Rusty

The surrounding imates also prove to be a talented group. There's Georgina (Clea Du Vall). Susanna's roommate. who was a intriguing bundle of nerves that could have gone with a little more back ground to her character. She's a pathological liar, who almost always seems to tell the truth except for when the scene demands otherwise. A disease of convenience I guess. ----- ----- Rusty

And Elizabeth Moss who has really blossomed on "Mad Men." ----- have you ever seen any episodes of the show and is it good. ---------- Another person who I personally think is one worth keeping a close eye on is Britanny Murphy. She's had a bit of a lull since her Clueless days, but this year had two great performances in two films. Her laughing jags in Drop Dead Gorgeous (an incredibly under rated comedy) kill me, and this character Daisy. This may sound like a stretch, but her portrayal reminded of Blanche Dubois ..... someone lost in their own little fantasy world who really does rely on the kindness of strangers. ----- Rusty

"Mad Men" is an amazing show, best thing on TV. Hyper-realistic look at the advertising world of the early 60's. These guys (and gals) love their smoke, their drink and their sex. 2. Brittany Murphy died last December.
