Phil, I'd really hate the Sony Empire to fall, given that it's an East Asian company that's set a remarkable record of influence in the West, and its founder Akio Morita remains IMHO a legend of enterprise and hard work. What Phil seemed to be implying is taking the part for the whole in his writing. But what I've been thinking of, in spite of my jokes about how Sir Howard might have been politely invited to a hara-kiri ceremony had he lived in samurai-era Japan,is that his eventual fault migth be, like so many people, a failure to watch his mouth. Searches online seem to indicate that he has done a good job while at Sony. Now maybe like most Englishmen he fancies himself a wit and then thought he was being funny at the moment. Though it gives him no excuse for insensitivity, I fear he may just have done too little thinking, and had no knowledge of the truth. Consider this little experiment: Now there is this person I converse with who is a conservative Midwesterner, and by right when he heard of the Ryder shoplifting affair he called it "not surprising" and "typical Hollywood". But it might be worthy of mention that a conservative columnist, Joel Mowbray, was one of the few whistleblowers on the truth of this case: www.nationalreview.com/mowbray/mowbray093002.aspSo I let him read it. Immediately after this, my penpal's POV changed, he commented on how "it appalled (him) some people had their egos over actual morality" and that there is "a war on terrorism...high speed chases, gang-related violence, and stuff that makes petty crimes VERY VERY petty" (emphasis HIS), that Cooley has "nothing better to do with his life than to tear down an actress who's more successful than he could ever be, just because she has been caught doing what appears to be shoplifting, with no record of shoplifting in her life before this? All because he doesn't want to be reduced to flipping burgers 5 years in the future because he can't even sell a vote to save his life? There is such a thing as karma, if you know by now." People, I have not edited a single word of anything he said. I think, therefore that one big problem with a lot of people is not just that they haven't been thinking, but the truth hasn't been told to them loud enough. PS I replied him and told him that flipping burgers was something we'd love to see Cooley doing. Imagine that..."You, hurry up with my meay patty. Hey, you're the guy who blew all those taxpayer dollars five years ago on that actress case, right? The one who just won the Oscar this year? Ha ha, didn't you watch the Oscars last night, she looked radiant! Ha ha, see you around...and you burnt my meat patty again...I may get the manager to fire you next time round, boy!"

I had to spread the truth as I saw fit, Charles. I just blew the whistle on Bill Zwecker and uncovered his shameful past as a junket blurbster whose level of film commentary does not go beyond a one-line bit of praise, didn't I? ;D
The fact that it's a conservative that blew the whistle on the trial says something...Cooley may be conservative, but he's losing the support of even those who would be likely to support him. Once the truth outs, it'll be clear what he is doing is against all definitions of morality regardless of political, cultural and personal boundaries. Ryder was an easy target because stealing is in itself pretty much against the grain of human morality as a whole, "Thou Shalt Not Steal" is one of the Ten Commandments. But so is "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness". And if making up "evidence" of previous shoplifting incidents without any actual proof is not the bearing of false witness, I don't know what is.

No, I really don't want Sony to fall either. I was just trying to say that...to comfort Noni...that in the End...Empires fall, great schemes collapse...but kindness lasts forever.

The Journey
I would gladly walk the distance Whispering your name as I embark A single drop of rain from the sky Would not touch me, but fill silent streams Leading to the deep well of your heart
Clouds part and burden lifted Face shining as I approach Glistening clear eyes greet me The shade of your skin is like.... Lighter petals of the sulpher rose
